Marathon Leisure is a trade distributor and have been supplying the marine leisure industry since 1992. They have over 11,000 stocked products in their range making them the most versatile and important distributor in the UK & Ireland.
In this edition, we catch up with Oliver Cook, from Marathon Leisure. We’re talking about their relationship with Barton Marine as a distributor, and find out more about their recent “Trade Day” in Scotland.
Q: What makes your business special?
Marathon has significantly invested in our systems and our personnel, this means as a company we are very keen and quick to react to market demands and trends. Our team are a professional group of long standing members, which gives us great loyalty and respect within the industry. Working with our customers, we ensure we offer a personalised and flexible approach to each stakeholder, so that we can mutually benefit from a close working relationship.
Q: What do you stock from Barton Marine?
As the UK distributor, we stock just about everything that Barton offers! Barton are also very quick to respond to special order items, so typically we can respond to 99% of orders within 2-3 days.
Q: How long you have been working with Barton Marine?
We started working with Barton in 2012 and have grown the business with them in this time.
Q: Can you tell us a little about your recent Trade Day – what did it involve, how many people attended, what did you cover, where was it held?
This year our trade day was held at the Ingliston Country Club in Glasgow. It was a great day (and evening!) with buyers and suppliers coming away with a real optimism for next season.
The event was an excellent opportunity for our suppliers to launch their new items, and also to benefit from the deep discounts available to boost profits going into 2018. Both customers and supporters are reporting a strong 2017, with expectations that 2018 will continue in a similar vein – even with the level of uncertainty in the current UK economy.
Q: Why do you enjoy working with Barton Marine?
We benefit and nurture a close working relationship with Barton.
The key is constant communication and development, which helps to identify and grow possible opportunities. We look forward to continuing this great relationship for many years to come!
Q: How does Barton Marine support your business?
Barton Marine is fantastic in aiding us with customer queries, specials, promotions, training and with general innovation. They aren’t simply here to make product, but to maintain and further improve their already well established and revered brand.
Q: Would you recommend Barton Marine to other businesses/colleagues/friends? If so, why?
Absolutely, without support, a range of products isn’t a brand. Barton, by supporting their markets, have created one of the world’s leading brands for blocks and rope management equipment.
