BARTON SPONSORED MIKE BROOKE SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETES CHARITY SAIL AROUND BRITAIN

Barton Marine sponsored British yachtsman Mike Brooke OBE has completed a twelve week sail around Britain to raise vital funds for research into Leber’s Congenital Amaurosis (LCA), a rare genetic condition of the retina.

Mike covered around 1720 nautical miles onboard his Barton equipped 19ft Cape Cutter, ‘Theo’s Future’, named after his godson, Theo who has LCA. Mike will be donating the funds to the eye research charity ‘Fight for Sight’ for Moorfields Eye hospital in London and the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology, which are together pioneering research and treatment for LCA.

“I am overjoyed by the amount of funds raised to date. The £32,900 we have received to date is enough to purchase a fast, light scanning machine, which will be a vital piece of equipment for use at the Moorfields Eye Hospital.

I visited 60 ports over the duration of the 86 day voyage and on my longest leg I covered 59 miles over 12 ½ hours. Over the course of my challenge, 25 people of varying ages and sailing experience crewed at different stages of the journey. We really should have named it the ‘wind on de nose challenge’ as we sailed with the wind literally on the nose of the yacht for most of the expedition. My journey was sometimes demanding, but all of the equipment onboard including the Barton deck gear really stood up to the test. It was an incredible experience,” says Mike Brooke.

Paul Botterill, Director, Barton Marine comments, “Our congratulations go to Mike on completing his challenge and raising funds that will have such a significant impact on people’s lives.”

AWARD-WINNING CLAMSEAL FITTED ONBOARD OCEAN SAFETY LIFERAFT RANGE

The legendary ClamSeal™ continues to prove itself as an effective repair and safety device that is ideally suited for RIBs, inflatables and liferafts. The glue-less repair system is now included in safety kits onboard the Ocean ISO liferaft range from Ocean Safety, one of the world’s leading suppliers of marine safety equipment.
The Award Winning Clamseal

Suitable for any inflatable product or fabric surface, the patented ClamSeal is a re-useable, practical safety device that can be quickly inserted into any tear in a tube or fabric floor up to 90mm (3.5 inches).

“The inclusion of the ClamSeal in safety kits for our Ocean ISO range has helped us to gain RYA accreditation for the liferafts,” comments Charlie Mill, Managing Director, Ocean Safety. “To ensure that we have the best emergency kit onboard and one that complies with ISO 9650 legislation, it is essential to include a proven repair system that is capable of repairing rips and tears, even when tubes are wet. As a tried and tested product, the ClamSeal is the solution we have been looking for.”

With no adhesive or tape required, the ClamSeal can be fitted above or below the waterline. Its smooth design and robust material has no sharp edges and ensures the device can withstand the toughest conditions.

BARTON EXTENDS DO 550 CLUTCH RANGE

Barton Marine extends its DO 550 clutch range with the introduction of its new double and triple line clutches. Following the first UK viewing of the single line DO 550 clutch at the 2008 Collins Stewart London Boat Show, the two recent additions complete Barton’s new range of clutches for cruising and racing yachts.
Please click here to view our DO 550 Clutch Range
Please click here to view our DO 550 Clutch Range

Sailing enthusiasts can now take advantage of the varying line capacity clutches from the Barton DO 550 range, each designed to offer a holding power of up to 550kg and control halyards up to 12mm.

It requires little effort to use the clutches thanks to the ergonomically designed handle and bolt together construction, which also allows for ease of servicing. All three clutches utilise a ‘true clutch’ mechanism which enables lines to be easily and accurately adjusted with maximum grip and minimal slippage when in locked position. Each clutch also allows steady and accurate release under load, with the specially designed tooth to reduce wear on ropes.

As with all of its products, Barton has ensured that modern, high performance materials have been used in the manufacture of its new DO 550 clutch range. The clutches have been produced using high grade plastic components coupled with marine grade aluminium cams and bases, resulting in lightweight products that provide exceptional strength and are extremely durable even in the harsh marine environment.

An additional unique feature of the products is the interchangeable insert on the clutch handle, which enables lines to be labelled for ease of identification on deck. Available as optional extras, the inserts include useful labels such as ‘Genoa’, ‘Main’ and ‘Spin Halyard’.

The DO 550 range is competitively priced:

Single Clutch – £38.00 excluding VAT (RRP)
Double clutch – £69.74 excluding VAT (RRP)
Triple clutch – £102.93 excluding VAT (RRP).

Ends
Date: June 2008

BARTON BOOMSTRUT ON ‘EUROPEAN YACHT OF THE YEAR’

We are proud that the Barton Boomstrut is part of the standard specification on the Sun Fast 3200, which was recently named “European Yacht of the Year 2008”.

© Jean-Marie Liot - Jeanneau
Providing fast response and a near constant force, the Boomstrut effortlessly supports the boom so that it will never accidentally fall onto its deck. The Boomstrut's two glass fibre rods support the boom at all times, preventing the boom from lifting or falling in light downwind conditions and providing exceptional stability and control upwind.

The Sun Fast 3200 is Jeanneau's brand new rising star. After winning the prize for innovation in 2007, awarded by the German magazine Segeln, the Jeanneau race boat now has been named "European Yacht of the Year 2008" by a jury of European journalists!

Congratulations to Jeanneau in receiving the honour on 19th January 2008 at the largest European boat show, in Düsseldorf, Germany. Journalists from 11 European magazines voted the Sun Fast 3200 "European Yacht of the Year" in the category of sailboats over 10 metres.

Conceived by Andrieu Yacht Design, the Sun Fast 3200 is the product of an original, innovative design.

This innovative concept has already seen tremendous commercial success in Europe. Case in point, more than 15 Sun Fast 3200s have already been ordered for the next Transquadra ocean race.

THE FUEL WHISTLE - FILL UP WITH EASE

The Fuel Whistle™ is a unique device that can help prevent accidental fuel spillage when re-fuelling boats. Available in the USA, the Fuel Whistle will be introduced to the European market by the recently appointed sole European distributor, Barton Marine.

Created to make the re-fuelling process easier and more efficient, the Fuel Whistle lets the boat owner know when to stop re-fuelling by making a ‘whistling’ sound throughout re-fuelling, as air is displaced out of the breather pipe. To inform the boat owner that the tank is approaching full, the sound changes to a ‘warble’ before stopping when the tank is full.

With the Fuel Whistle the boat owner will know when to stop re-fuelling before the tank is full, which reduces the chance of full spillage and fuel wastage as well as reduce the amount of fuel inadvertently spilled into the marine ecosystem.

Any boat with a 16 mm (5/8”) vent line can be fitted with a Fuel Whistle. At just 5cm (2”) in length and width when installed the device is unobtrusive. It is simple to install and is fitted in line into the breather pipe. The fuel vent line is cut and the Fuel Whistle is inserted into the vent line, so that the arrows on the device are facing upwards. Two screws can be inserted into the moulded mounting ears of the device to keep the device positioned firmly in the correct direction.

The Fuel Whistle is priced at £11.05 excluding VAT (RRP).

BARTON LAUNCHES NEW CLUTCH AT METS 2007 (13th - 15th November) Stand 01.240

One of the UK's leading deck hardware manufacturers, Barton Marine is launching its new DO550 Clutch for controlling halyards up to 12 mm at METS 2007. Barton's new single rope clutch design means exceptional strength and ease of operation.

Using high quality materials that withstand the harsh marine environment, the clutch is extremely durable and impact resistant, with a maximum holding power of up to 550 kg. The high grade plastic components coupled with aluminium cams and bases in the 'Spectro' anodised finish that is featured on many Barton products ensure a strong yet lightweight product.

Operating the clutch is easy thanks to the strong, easy to hold handle, which makes opening and closing the clutch mechanism simple and precise. The design also allows the lines to be adjusted with minimal slippage when in the closed, locked position.

Yacht maintenance was also considered during the design of the Clutch. The stainless steel rope fairleads at the entry and exit points help prevent wear to the lines and the clutch. In addition, the bolt-together construction makes it easier for checking the parts during maintenance.

The removable insert panel at the top of the clutch's handle allows coloured, labelled inserts to be easily added and replaced dependent on the function of the unit. Inserts include a range of functions such as 'Genoa', 'Main', and 'Spinnaker Halyard', which are available as an optional extra in either cruising or racing specific packs.

The DO550 Clutch is priced at £38.00 excluding VAT (RRP).

For more information about the new DO550 Clutch, please visit the Barton Marine stand (01.240) at METS 2007.

NEW PACKAGING FOR THE WINCHER

We’ve introduced a new carded packaging (with fitting instructions on the reverse) for the Wincher, making it easier to see the product before you buy.

The Wincher has become a popular piece of equipment onboard many sailing boats. This specially designed rubber moulding converts the standard winch to a self tailing winch, so that when the line is sheeted under load the coils climb up the drum and are then gripped by the underside of the rubber body. When the sail is trimmed, cleating is achieved simply by locking the line into the ribbed groove of the Wincher.

ADRIAN FLANAGAN – ALPHA GLOBAL EXPEDITION

Adrian Flanagan
“Barton blocks were among several outstanding pieces of equipment on board 'Barrabas' on the first part of the Alpha Global Expedition. Encountering truly horrendous conditions during the 26,000 mile passage between the UK and Alaska via Cape Horn, my Barton Blocks performed way above expectation. I did not experience a single failure despite massively overloading the blocks at times. The shackles on the spinnaker snatch blocks never seized, a problem I have experienced with a number of blocks from a variety of other leading manufacturers. Barton Blocks will again be on board exclusively when I return to Alaska in June to sail 'Barrabas' back to the UK via the Russian Arctic. A single-handed sailor relies completely on his gear. If there's a name I can rely on when the going gets tough, it's Barton Marine,” says Adrian Flanagan.

BARTON MARINE CELEBRATES 20 YEARS UNDER CURRENT OWNERSHIP

2006 marked the 20th anniversary of David Coleman purchasing RSJ Barton Ltd from founder Ron Barton.

Peter Methven and David Coleman
David and his staff were joined by some 100 customers, suppliers and friends from around the world to celebrate this event with a ‘Taste of Whitstable’ seafood lunch at Barton HQ.

Peter Methven, current President of the BMF made a short speech congratulating the whole Barton team on their continued success and growth of the company.

Peter’s 34.5ft yacht Dilkusha is entirely fitted with Barton deck gear, so he was delighted when invited to give a speech to guests. He further congratulated David on the success of Barton products, when onboard Dilkusha, which was on display outside the Barton premises for the celebration.

RSJ Barton was established in 1948 and was one of the first to pioneer the use of laminated plastics and stainless steel to produce lightweight blocks and deck hardware. In 1986, Ron Barton sold the company to David Coleman, a keen sailor who had spent a number of years in the small boat deck hardware business. David has since played a fundamental role in expanding the company, its extensive range of products and global customer base.

Now in its 58th year, Barton continues to research and utilise new and innovative products, materials and finishes.

"I feel honoured that Ron Barton chose to sell the company to me and equally honoured that now in its 58th year the company remains privately owned and financed. I have a great team who understand the importance of the product, customers and service, and because of this we continue to enjoy healthy growth in what has become a very aggressive market place," comments David Coleman.

"David’s work ethos has inspired a loyal and dedicated team, with most people working at Barton for an average of 10 years. The five longest serving have been at the company for a combined 127 years," says Paul Botterill, one of the company's directors.

BARTON BOOMSTRUT SELECTED FOR LATEST EMANUELE ROSSI YACHT DESIGN

Emanuele Rossi Yacht Design and Engineering has selected the Barton Boomstrut as a standard fitting on the new ERYD 30 day sailer.

The Barton Boomstrut offers exceptional control of the mainsail and less windage by dispensing with the topping lift, complementing the high performance features of the ERYD 30. The hull of the ERYD 30 has been developed to lengthen the waterline when sailing upwind to provide exhilarating close wind performance, whilst its stern sections are designed to allow the yacht to quickly get onto the plane downwind as the wind increases.

Already providing fast response and a near constant force for vang efficiency on many cruising and racing yachts up to 12 metres, the Barton Boomstrut will effortlessly support the boom of the 9m ERYD 30 so that it will never accidentally fall onto its teak deck. The Boomstrut's two glass fibre rods support the boom at all times, preventing the boom from lifting or falling in light downwind conditions and providing exceptional stability and control upwind.

The unobtrusive Boomstrut, eliminates friction, sharp edges and sliding parts and fits neatly on the mast fitting aboard the elegantly designed ERYD 30, which was introduced to the market in 2006.

PETTICROWS LTD SELECTS BARTON BOOMSTRUT FOR INSTALLATION ON DRAGON KEELBOATS
by Louise Read ( louise.read@saltwatercoms.com )

credit to Petticrows Ltd
Barton Marine has been selected to supply its Boomstrut to Petticrows Ltd, a leading Dragon keelboat manufacturer in the United Kingdom. The Boomstrut, which is now available as an optional extra aboard the 8.9 metre Petticrow Dragon, provides a fast response and a near constant force for vang efficiency to give racers more control of the mainsail.

"Customers choose from four Dragon models, which we then customise to meet each racer's specification," says Tim Tavinor, Production and Technical Manager at Petticrows Ltd. "When purchasing a Dragon, approximately 90% of our customers currently ask for the Barton Boomstrut to be fitted as an additional feature. It is appropriate for the boat's rig and assists the skipper as it supports the boom by releasing tension on the leach of the sail, which is particularly helpful in light winds."

"Many of the Dragons have beautiful inlaid decks and the Boomstrut avoids any damage by ensuring that the boom does not fall onto the deck when lowering the sail," adds Tim.

The lightweight design of the Boomstrut eliminates friction, sharp edges and sliding parts. Unnecessary drilling can also be avoided when installing, as its boom fitting is contoured to fit both flat and round booms and the mast fitting can slide in most luff grooves.

"With Petticrow Dragon teams dominating the top finishing positions in International Championships it is important that they use the most reliable equipment onboard," says Paul Botterill, Director at Barton Marine. "The Boomstrut dispenses with the topping lift so that less weight and windage aloft is created. Its two fibreglass rods support the boom at all times, so that when the boom is pulled down the Boomstrut flexes upward and when releasing the boom the Boomstrut straightens, lifting and securing the boom in position."

The Barton Boomstrut, designed to endure heavy usage when racing or cruising, is available in five sizes to suit yachts up to 12 metres.

by Louise Read ( louise.read@saltwatercoms.com )

Barton Marine, one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of sail control hardware, has upgraded its range of Size 7 blocks designed for yachts up to 16 metres.

The Size 7 blocks are the largest high load cruiser blocks in the Barton range, and control ropes up to 14mm in diameter, making them ideal for both cruising and racing yachts.

Made to the highest construction standards, Size 7 blocks feature glass filled nylon side plates and stainless steel load carrying components.
Available now, the upgraded versions are even stronger at handling high loads, as the stainless steel load carrying components have been modified to offer even more strength and security. They also remain lightweight and durable to ensure ease of use, even in demanding conditions.

“Boats are getting larger and the demands on blocks are increasing,” says Paul Botterill, Director, Barton Marine. “We have upgraded our Size 7 block range whilst maintaining the prices from the previous range to ensure that we meet these demands and continue to offer competitive prices.”

Barton has further enhanced its range of yacht fittings with the upgrade of its Size 7 block range, starting at just £16.82 inc. VAT.

The Young Business Person of the Year is targeted at members of the industry that are employed, rather than running their own companies. The award recognises businesspeople that have made the biggest impact in their company in terms of moving the company on with new business ideas or services, innovative products, or those who have simply made a huge difference to a business by force of their own personality.

“It is a great honour to be presented with the Young Business Person of the Year award,” says Paul Botterill. “I am happy to accept this award on behalf of all of the Barton team who all work extremely hard behind the scenes developing new, innovative products.”

Founded in 1949, Barton Marine is one of the market leaders for deck hardware. Operating from headquarters in Whitstable, Kent, Barton Marine produces over 1000 different products suitable for use on all sailboats from small dinghies and keel boats through to yachts of up to 16 metres.

BARTON BOOMSTRUT FITTED ONBOARD THE NEW BÉNÉTEAU FIRST 34.7 YACHT
by Louise Read ( louise.read@saltwatercoms.com )
30/01/2006

Barton Marine has won the contract to supply its Barton Boomstrut, as a standard fitting aboard the new Bénéteau First 34.7 yacht. The Boomstrut has a patented flexing action, which effortlessly supports the boom at all times, providing fast response and a near constant force for vang efficiency so that the boom will not accidentally drop even in extreme conditions.

The new Bénéteau First 34.7 yacht, designed by Farr Yacht Design to win races, was launched at Paris Boat Show 2005. The Barton Boomstrut has been included to assist the crew in providing a fast and efficient action for boom control. Fitting neatly in position it will allow owners to achieve Bénéteau's aim of offering its customers efficient and smooth handling together with a comfortable sailing experience.

“We are delighted that Bénéteau selected our Boomstrut for installation on one of its latest crafts,” says Paul Botterill, Director at Barton Marine. “The low profile design of the Boomstrut is unobtrusive and offers a lightweight tool for controlling and supporting the boom onboard this superb racing machine.”

The Barton Boomstrut features two glass fibre rods that provide force to support the boom, so that when the boom is pulled down the Boomstrut flexes upward, and straightens the rods thereby lifting the boom.

Installation and rigging is simple as the Boomstrut can mount independently of an existing kicking strap. There is no need to replace current hardware and when the installation is complete, only the topping lift has to be removed as this becomes redundant. The boom fitting is contoured to fit both flat and round booms and the mast fitting can slide in most luff grooves to avoid unnecessary drilling.

Starting at £128.89 including VAT, the Barton Boomstrut is available in five sizes to suit yachts up to 12 metres to help improve boat performance with less weight and windage aloft by dispensing with the topping lift.

CLAMSEAL™ REPAIR PRAISED BY OWNER
by Louise Read ( louise.read@saltwatercoms.com )
16/12/2005

London Boat Show, ExCel, 6th – 15th January 2006
Plastimo stand N1207

A RIB driver has praised the effectiveness of the Barton ClamSeal™ when used on his 7.5m Ribtec safety boat during the Bursledon regatta. Given the device as a birthday present, Andrew kept it on his boat, convinced he would never really need it. During the Optimist racing, for which the RIB was a main safety boat, he came alongside the pontoon puncturing the main collar of the boat on a protruding piece of metal. The boat needed repairing instantly to enable the team to head back out to take up their position.

There was only one way to keep the boat in action, Andrew reached for the ClamSeal™, “The worst moment of using it was when I had to take a knife to the tear to make it a bit larger so I could engage the ClamSeal™ through the hole! But the incision needed was only minor and it was then a simple matter to screw the two halves together and re-inflate the tube. It took minutes and we were soon heading back out to the racing.”

The repair was so effective that Andrew has still not bothered to effect a permanent repair even after three months. “The ClamSeal™ is still doing a perfect job” he said “and we have not had to put any air in the tube since! This is despite the boat getting regular and very heavy use and the fact that the position of the hole means that the ClamSeal™ is regularly knocked against other boats and pontoons.”

The ClamSeal™ has now become a permanent part of the safety kit on many RIBS around the world and is continuing to amaze those who have used them, on the effectiveness of this simple low cost solution to an otherwise complicated problem.

For further information about the legendary ClamSeal™, please visit the Plastimo stand N1207 at London Boat Show.

Barton Marine, a sponsor of the Alpha Global Expedition, supports Adrian with his challenge and has provided complete deck gear for his yacht Barrabas, a Trireme 38 Mk IV.

"We were interested to hear the announcement of the Alpha Global Expedition," says Paul Botterill, Director at Barton Marine. "Adrian Flanagan's ambition and determination is exhilarating and the planning of this type of expedition is immense. The circumnavigation will be intense and it is vital that the equipment onboard provides Adrian with the necessary assistance to successfully complete his challenge."

Barton Marine is one of the leading UK manufacturers of deck hardware and has stockists around the world, providing yachtsmen and women with the right tools to 'Control the Power' when cruising or racing. Barton has provided Barrabas with high performance deck gear that is lightweight yet both strong and durable to withstand the constant demanding use during the 30,000-mile journey ahead.

The extreme conditions that these blocks will endure will be more than the entire working life of the average block. Barton's range of cruiser blocks are ideally suited for the harsher environments that Adrian Flanagan will encounter during his expected 300 days of sailing, before his planned return during July 2006.

"We send our best wishes to Adrian Flanagan, the best of luck for his remarkable challenge, and a safe return home," concludes Botterill.

BARTON MARINE INTRODUCES NEW ROPE HANDLING DEVICE
by Louise Read ( louise.read@saltwatercoms.com )
3/11/2005

Barton Marine is pleased to announce the introduction of the Line Tamer, a new rope handling device for boat owners. Stray halyards and lines can be secured around the Barton Line Tamer to ensure that they are kept neat and untangled whilst sailing or on the mooring.

“We understand that efficiency is important and we have designed the Line Tamer so that it is easy to install and use,” comments Paul Botterill, Director at Barton Marine. “It provides crew and skipper with the assurance and convenience that a line can be quickly grabbed without having to detangle the rope before adjusting the sail.”

Highly durable, the Line Tamer is produced from the same glass filled Nylon as the sides of the Barton Blocks. The unobtrusive, compact and ergonomic design of the Line Tamer with its smooth, curved edge does not cause harm to crew that brush past nor does it snag the rope.

Barton Marine’s Line Tamer will enable crew to keep ropes secure and tidy from a dinghy to a yacht or motorboat of any size, and will retail at a price of £4.00 for a pair.

UPGRADED SNATCH BLOCKS FROM BARTON
by Clive Bartlett ( clive.bartlett@saltwatercoms.com )
12/08/2005

One of the UK's leading manufacturers of deck gear for sailing yachts, Barton Marine, has upgraded its range of Snatch Blocks for yachts up to 14 metres.

Barton has developed the range to be stronger than its previous Snatch Blocks while maintaining their highly competitive price. Available in small and medium size the blocks have a fully stainless steel opening mechanism, which provides greater strength and longevity than the previous action manufactured in chrome plated bronze. Using new materials the units are now also lighter making them ideal for racing yachts.

Barton Snatch Blocks have traditionally been an essential addition to a yacht's inventory with over 4000 of them being sold every year. The original small version of the block was already the smallest and lightest snatch block available in the market. The new all stainless version is set to be even more popular, offering greater power and even less weight. Starting at just £32.64 inc. VAT, Barton has again successfully added to its hard-earned reputation for providing the highest quality products for yachtsmen at the lowest possible prices.

BARTON BACK A GIANT KILLER
by Clive Bartlett ( clive.bartlett@saltwatercoms.com )
25/07/2005

The appropriately named J39 “Assassin” took some impressive scalps at the IRC Championships in the Solent. Although pushed into second place overall she took great pride in beating Sydney –Hobart winner, Quokka.

Assassin is supported by Barton Marine, who supply the yacht with all its blocks and control gear. Barton's Paul Botterill is especially interested in keeping Assassin's deck fittings working fast as he is also halyard man on board. “We specialise in making high load blocks for yachts like Assassin,” commented Paul, “so its essential for me to experience them working flat out. The IRC Championship certainly did that as it was blowing over force 6, and while it was disappointing not to take the trophy, our second place in such a powerful fleet was extremely satisfying. I was delighted to see that the performance of our blocks under pressure was fantastic!”

THE BARTON MAST SUPPORT FOR TRAVELLING DINGHIES
by Clive Bartlett ( clive.bartlett@saltwatercoms.com )
02/06/2005

Normally associated with deck hardware for cruising and racing yachts, Barton Marine has introduced the innovative Barton Mast Support for sailing dinghies. The support secures the lowered mast at the aft end of the dinghy and prevents damage to the mast and deck when trailed. Designed to slot into the boat's rudder fittings, the support is fully adjustable to suit most transoms. The crosspiece incorporated into the support will allow for a light/number plate board to be fitted.

When not in use the support simply lifts off the transom fittings for storage. There are no other fastenings needed and weighing just 1.2 Kgs it is suitable for large or small boats without affecting the trailer balance.

Barton is keen to point out that the robustly constructed support enhances safety when the boat is being trailed and ensures the mast and rigging can be quickly stowed prior to departure and ready to go on arrival with minimum fuss. It also provides a useful and tidy stowage accessory for the mast when not in place in the dinghy park or when laid up.

As with all Barton equipment the Mast Support is built to an extremely high standard by the company which has an outstanding reputation for quality and innovation.

SALTWATER APPOINTED BY BARTON MARINE
by Clive Bartlett ( clive.bartlett@saltwatercoms.com )
06/05/2005

Saltwater Communications has been appointed to handle the PR and advertising for Barton Marine, one of the UK's leading manufacturers of deck hardware. Established in 1949, Barton was one of the first companies to introduce laminated plastic (Tufnol) and stainless steel in the manufacture of lightweight yachting blocks. Barton's use of powerful new materials allowed for the production of stronger, lighter sailboat fittings at very competitive prices. That philosophy has continued, with Barton continually seeking to develop products that exceed the yachtsman's expectations.

Since recently moving to new premises, the company has introduced a number of new and technically advanced products. To consolidate its marketing requirements to one source it has now appointed Saltwater to handle the media relations, advertising and later introduction of a new packaging range.

Saltwater is well known in the marine industry as a proactive and innovative agency, working with a number of major marine industry clients. Clive Bartlett, Director of Saltwater commented, “Our team is looking forward to working with Barton as it provides us with the opportunity to make a measurable contribution to the company's profile in all aspects of its marketing strategy. It is great to work with a forward thinking British company with such a highly respected international brand name. Our intention is to raise consumer awareness and bring a professional styling to its media output and consumer facing literature.”

CLAMSEAL PRICES - REDUCED !!

Following the success of providing a RIB repair system and lifesaving product in one compact safety device, Barton Marine has lowered the price of its legendary ClamSeal™ to £8.50 plus VAT.

Launched last year for any RIB or inflatable, including liferafts, to carry on board, the patented, innovative ClamSeal™ is a re-useable safety device that can be quickly inserted into any tear in a tube or fabric floor up to 90mm (3.5 inches).

The ClamSeal™ received the 2004 METS Design Award (DAME) in the Lifesaving Equipment and Safety category, as well as the NMMA Product Innovation Award, also in 2004.

Suitable for any inflatable product or fabric surface, the ClamSeal™ will instantly repair a tear in situ, even underwater. This means that an inflatable can now be repaired offshore and returned safely without assistance. As no adhesives or tape are necessary the tear can be wet or even under the waterline and still be reliably repaired with the ClamSeal™.

Hand tighten the nut is all that is needed before reinflating the tube for an instant repair, which can actually last indefinitely before a permanent repair need be carried out. The quality of the fabric creates a viable washer and when repairing a tube, the air pressure will actually assist in effecting the seal. The robust material and engineered design ensures the ClamSeal™ can withstand some rough treatment too and importantly it can be used again and again if necessary.

There are just four parts of the ClamSeal™. The back plate, which seals from the inside of the tube, the front plate which covers the outside, the lanyard which pulls the two elements together and a nut which finally clams them tight. All parts are permanently held together with the lanyard so no single part can be lost in the bilge or over the side.
